Following a period of research and consultation amongst Kent’s consumers, initiated by the mouthpiece of farmers’ market in the county – the Kent Farmers’ Market Association, the findings confirm that Kent’s 40-plus network of farmers’ markets are playing an increasingly significant role in the food and drink shopping habits in the county.
Kent’s farmers’ markets first began springing up across the county in the late 1990s and were set up to provide Kent’s food and drink producers and growers with a local outlet for their produce, giving smaller businesses the opportunity to sell direct to the public, providing fairer prices and creating a way for the communities to re-invest in the rural community.
The survey, commissioned by the Kent Farmers’ Markets Association, revealed that 62 per cent of farmers’ markets shoppers are committed to attending their local market every time its on – revealing the high level of loyalty created by markets, and their increasing contribution to the rural economy – evaluated at around £3m a year.

Management Arrangements Extended
At a full Town Council Meeting on Monday 12th April, 2010, Sevenoaks Town Council agreed to continue the current success of the joint management of the Town Council and the Stag Community Arts Centre by Mrs Linda Larter MBE until September 2011.
Under her leadership the Stag Community Arts Centre has moved from a considerable liability to a vibrant community facility. Within its first year 76,000 tickets were sold to more than 200 events and this success continues in the programme for 2010 and 2011 for community activities, centre development and ticket sales. Cinema attendance is now meeting and sometimes exceeding the national average.

Blazing arrows and explosive bombards will be whistling through the air at Groombridge Place Gardens, nearTunbridge Wells, when Robin Hood and his Merry Men visit over the bank holiday weekend (Sunday May 2 and Monday May 3) for some fast moving action.
Breathtaking stunts will be performed by the Golden Eagle Archers who have just finished filming Ridley Scott’s film ‘Robin Hood’ with Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, which goes on general release on 14 May.
In a dazzling display of archery skills, the team will entertain visitors with some of the stunts that can be seen in the film, including shooting flaming arrows high into the sky. There will also be sword fighting, explosive bombards and in a grand finale Robin will be blown up.
All the characters will be there to talk to visitors and have their pictures taken, including Maid Marian, the Sheriff of Nottingham and Friar Tuck and there will be a fancy dress competition for children who are encouraged to come dressed as Robin or Marian.
There will also be Tales of the Silver Arrow to entertain children, who will receive free Robin Hood hats or Maid Marion circlets, while stocks last.
